Philately (stamp collecting) is a hobby that many of us took up along with marbles and collecting comics when we were younger and dad would bring home stamps from the office. Many philatelists spend years learning the hobby, joining Philatelic Societies, attending auctions etc. Philately is another wonderful way of drifting into another world and finding a hobby that can offer both excitement and calmness.
After following many philatelic roads and byways, I realised that collecting Australian States was a way to combine my love of history and bygone times with the thrill of looking for unexpected treasures. I decided for various reasons to focus on Queensland, perhaps because my wife is a Queenslander, or maybe because when I was younger I hitch hiked to Cairns and always thought of Queensland as one of the last Australian unexplored wildernesses, a vast expanse of coral reefs and rainforests, as well as red outback and sandy deserts.
In any event I realised after a number of years that I had enough information and material to publish a number of books on the Postal History of Queensland.
